Understanding the Individualized Educational Plan (IEP) for ELLs

Location: Brooklyn UFT- 335 Adams Street, 25th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201
This half-day workshop is designed for parents of ELLs in special education and/or parents that might need information regarding ELLs that receive special education services. Participants will gain a working knowledge of laws pertaining to special education and ELLs, including their role in the development of an appropriate Individualized Education Program (IEP) and how to be an effective partner with the CSE/IEP school team in the process.
Participants may bring his/her child’s IEP, as the workshop will include hands-on activities designed to further familiarize participants with the IEP as it pertains to ELLs, so as to support parents in being active participants in the creation of his/her child’s IEP and lead toward positive educational outcomes.
This workshop will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2013, 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (Breakfast will be offered from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.) at the UFT Offices in Brooklyn on 335 Adams Street, 25th Floor, Brooklyn, NY 11201.

The Queens UFT and CAPSC are hosting a Parent Education Conference on Saturday, November 23rd at the Sheraton LaGuardia East hotel in Flushing, Queens.
There are two sessions of workshops that run from 09:45 – 3:00 pm. Registration breakfast begins at 08:30 am.
You can choose from workshops conducted in English, Mandarin and Spanish. The offer is free for any parent with a child in a New York City school. It’s a first-come-first-served basis with pre-registration available on line.
