On Friday, June 5th, fourth and fifth grade students will be taking a “Field Test” during the first two periods. The test does not affect your child’s score or performance – it solely benefits the business which creates the tests.
If you wish to opt out of the field test, please submit a letter as sampled in this link:
Dear Principal:
Thank you for all of the important work you do.
I understand that our school will be administering field tests this spring. I am writing to let you know that my child, _________________________, will not be participating in these tests.
Our children are already over-tested and I do not support yet another state assessment that will take away valuable instructional time. Field tests use our children as unwilling and unpaid participants for market research so that testing companies can create their products, without parental consent.
Please allow my child to read or do other schoolwork during these tests.
Sincerely,

Dear Parents,
At this time, we are reviewing bus eligibility for the upcoming school year. As you are aware, there is a change in eligibility for students entering grades 3-6. Since your child is moving into this category, there may be change in bus service. Your eligibility is dependent upon your distance code and bus availability. Please see below:
Please note: These guidelines are on the OPT website. You can also refer to Chancellor Regulation A-801.
If you need further clarification, please contact Ms. Pate. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Carmen Parache,
Principal”

Subtracting Stress From Tests
When education systems emphasize perfect percentages and solid scores, it can drive a young thinker to nervousness, and blocked thoughts. During this workshop, Subtracting Stress from Tests, parents will:
* Discover how children can benefit in school from mindfulness and meditation.
* Learn some useful tools and techniques to help your child feel grounded and ready to take on any test presented—be it in school or life.
When stress is removed, we allow the brain to feel free, think clear, and once again enjoy the act of learning where eagerness for a challenge is added and confidence is multiplied!
