The deadline extension gives families more time to learn about all of their options before submitting an application. Families will be notified as soon as additional program options have been finalized, and will be able to adjust their applications accordingly.Read Chancellor Carmen Fariña’s press release about the pre-k program expansion efforts.

Visit the Department of Education’s pre-k website to obtain more information about admissions, to submit an online application, download the Pre-K Directory and other resources in multiple languages, and to learn about upcoming Parent Information Sessions.

Welcome to Pre-Kindergarten Admissions! This is an exciting time for families and their young learners. We invite all families with children born in 2010 to learn more about free public elementary school and community-based pre-kindergarten (pre-k) options and to apply to pre-k. If your child is already enrolled in pre-k and you do not want to receive future email updates, you can unsubscribe here.

Learning More
Our Pre-Kindergarten Directory is now available online, at Enrollment Offices, and at public elementary schools with pre-k programs. The Directory tells families about program options and about how to apply to pre-k. The pre-k flyer also provides some helpful information that anyone can print and share. Pre-K Information Sessions
Families are invited to attend an information session where they can learn more about Pre-K Admissions for September 2014. All information sessions will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Starting March 3, families may apply to pre-k programs at public elementary schools and community-based organizations (CBOs). Please review the information below about how to apply:

Public School Pre-K Programs
Apply beginning March 3, 2014
Apply online or in-person at an Enrollment Office starting March 3, 2014
– All applications submitted by the deadline will be treated equally. There is no advantage to applying early.

Community-Based Organization (CBO) Pre-K Programs
– Ongoing application process
– Contact CBOs directly to apply
– Admissions policies vary by CBO

Please note: We are working to create additional full-day pre-k programs. This may include converting some current half-day programs to full-day programs, establishing new full-day programs, and adding full-day classes to schools with existing full-day pre-k programs. We will provide an opportunity for families to apply to new programs before the 2014-2015 school year begins.
